Edgar Mcguire

Ed McGuire passed away on June 20, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Joy (Kimmell) McGuire. Loving father of Cindy McGuire (Mark) Cordes and Tom McGuire. Stepfather to Scott (Paula) Bennett. He was the proud “Super Grandpa” to Ryan (Margaret) Cordes, Grant Cordes (Eddie Byrne), Taylor (Jon Grum) Cordes and great-grandfather to darling Colbie Grum with another great-granddaughter on the way. Ed is also survived by a sister, Joyce Clasey, and special in-laws, Jim and Nancy Greenwald, along with cherished nieces, Kathy Carey, Dee Dee Niebling and Cyndi Handley. Ed was predeceased by his first wife, Janice Greenwald McGuire, in addition to siblings Freda Shofner, Lawrence McGuire, Carolyn Followell, along with sister-in-law Shirley Morgan and stepdaughter Kimberly Bennett. A military veteran, Ed was an assistant principal of Crystal Lake Central High School, which he referred to as “THE” high school. He retired in 1990 and remained a proud and dedicated Tiger throughout his life. Prior to that position, he was a history teacher and school administrator in Dundee school district 300. He was very well known in the Crystal Lake community and his grandchildren frequently asked “does Grandpa know everyone?” He will always be remembered for his larger-than-life spirit and personality, generosity, devotion to family and friends, and his famous baked beans, chili, and love of jalapenos. It was also a rare day that he every missed final Jeopardy. The Memorial for Ed will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Crystal Lake, IL on July 30th. Visitation will be from 9:30-11, followed by a service at 11. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to P.A.W.S. or the Crystal Lake Food Pantry
