Leeroy “Lee” Bruce Sturtevant

Lee Sturtevant, 78, of Wonder Lake passed away October 6, 2024 at Northwestern Hospital in McHenery after a long and courageous 26 year battle with cancer and its many complications.  Born June 6, 1946 in Chicago to the late Bruce and Louise Sturtevant.  Devoted husband to Patricia; loving father of Rick (Kim), Lisa and Kate; proud grandfather of Taylor (Alex) Martinez; Rikki (Kyle) Wright, Christian Henderson, Gunnar Ahrstrom, and Olivia and Trevor Sturtevant; caring great-grandfather of Marek and Vivian Martinez; beloved uncle to Stephanie and Regina.  Lee also leaves behind many extended family members including cousins, in-laws and their children and grandchildren, whom he loved very much.

During his career, Lee was employed by International Harvester in Libertyville for 25 years as a machine operator.  He also drove a gravel truck for several years and he was then employed by Kemper in Long Grove, and eventually retired from Kelco Industries after working on their farm in Bull Valley.  Lee was also a volunteer fireman for the Fox Lake Fire Department and a member of the Scuba Dive team for several years.

Lee enjoyed working on cars, riding motorcycles and having a few beers with his buddies.  He was always willing to help his son Rick and his friends work on their cars when they were teenagers; they always knew if they needed air in their tires or a tire change Lee was more than happy to help.

Sundays were set aside for football games.  Lee would wear his favorite team's jersey, either the Chicago Bears or the Green Bay Packers, usually with one of his grandsons joining him.  In the last two years he had a little dog, Joey who you could find sitting by his side sharing a snack, usually a bowl of popcorn!

Please join us October 26, 2024 from 2:00pm - 5:00pm at the Rusty Nail, 4520 Ringwood Road, Ringwood IL to celebrate the life and legacy of Lee.  Please feel free to wear your favorite sports team or race car jersey or sweatshirt, Lee would love that.  He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
